Coccyx pain or tailbone pain
80How to know or tell whether it is coccyx pain or tailbone pain.
Coccyx or tailbone pain can be because of the either if you had a major fall and fractured your tailbone or you had this since childbirth. The only way you will be able to tell the tailbone pain symptoms or the coccyx pain is that you are unable to sit down. Do not despair as there are treatments available and there are seat cshion available for the painful coccyx or the tail bone. This tailbone pain is also called the coccydynia or coccygodynia. This can happen when you are sitting and most commonly the pain happens more in case of women than in men. Another major symptom is the pain while you go form sitting to standing. That is why a lot of questions people ask are how do you diagnose and treat a broken tailbone.
In general you need to see your physician who may then refer you to the orthopedic surgeon. The doctors will generally recommend that you undergo at least X-ray and the CAT scans to make sure that you have everything covered and eliminate any other possibilities. Then it is important to differentiate whether the cause is because of the lower back pain called the lumbar pain or the coccyx.
Now as far as the treatment is concerned the coccyx pain can be relieved somewhat if the doctor is able to diagnose that it is the out of position coccyx or tailbone that is causing the pain. In most cases it is very tough to determine. Assuming it is determined then applying external pressure or by the internal pressure can bring the coccyx into position but this has to be done by an expert else it can lead to more pain and more trouble. Now another way is to get some anti-inflammatory drug and that ill means the corticosteoid injections which will give you some tailbone relief.
- Coccyx cushion and tailbone seat cushion
Coccydynia or tailbone pain can happen because of defect by birth or later at any stage in life. A lot of females get it during the time of the delivery. Sportspersons can get this while playing as the...
Now what is coccyx?
Coccyx or the tailbone in our body is vestigial tail which is does not perform any function within the body. The tailbone is generally not very obvious as it just there at the end of the spine but in some cases it can be deformed at childbirth and it can cause pain.
Broken tailbone or why does my tailbone hurt? Bruised tailbone can be the reason
Chances of having a broken tailbone are then when you fall or while playing you get injured. There are generally no major fractures which happen as it is at place of the body that no maximum force would be applied but yes minor chipping or the minor fracture may be there. That minor chip can cause definitely acute pain. The broken tail bone or the tailbone fracture will heal y itself but you will need to be careful and that will mean having the tailbone cushion or the coccyx cushion which can help in sitting without the tailbone sitting the hard surface on which you are sitting.
A lot of people ask the question about how you know if your tailbone broke
Well as I said earlier the best way you will get to know is pain especially while sitting or during the movement from sitting to standing. There can be some inflammation but it may not be there at all. A lot of times there may be a cyst near the tailbone that cause the pain.
Why tailbone hurts for no reason?
Well seemingly on the outset it may look like the tailbone or the coccyx hurts for no reason however the fact is the coccyx area is fused vertebrae and it has this sciatic nerve which can be causing the pain.
The nerve may have been pinched by long hours of sitting on metal or wooden surfaces. Some people also get that because of sitting on a soft cushion for long hours.
The pain can happen when you get a cyst on your tailbone. The best thing to do is to make sure that you visit your doctor to confirm the real cause. if the pain persists you can use a tush cush or coccyx seat cushion to help you get some relief. The cushion helps to relieve the stress from the tailbone area.
You can get a wedge shaped cushion or a donut shaped cushion based on how comfortable you feel with either of those.
How do you know if you broke your tailbone
Believe me you can tell just by the pain that you will experience. It is excruciating. You cannot sit or walk easily and in fact passing bowel movements can also be painful. Before you even go for the X-ray use the coccyx seat cushions to help you sit easily without putting much pressure on the tailbone. There is no splint which can be out on the tailbone. So the only way it will heal is by itself.

I have been experiencing tailbone pain for 7 months now. It is extremely painful to sit at times and to get out of a chair. I don't recall falling or anything. I went to the doctor who did an xray and said everything looked ok. Yet, I still hurt badly. I have pain medication but I really want to know why I hurt. Unfortuanately, insurance doesn't cover want to cover MRI's and such unless a person does therapy first. How can a person do therapy for a bone??? The information here has helped me.
My friend a month ago kicked me full force there and i think she might have a chip because i still cant walk or sit in comfort!
I was in a car wreck and my tail bone among other bones was shattered. Tis has caused me the most discomfort of all my breaks. I was on bed rest for two weeks which aided in more pain. I have learned to sit differently and use a heating pad to help aleviate some of the pain and swelling. I am confused on how long it takes for all the nerve endings to reroute or die.
After seeing a PA for my tail and was giving flex all and tramadol without the PA even taking a look or a feel, no xrays and no CAT scan. I do work on my feet all day but have had the same type of job for years.
I'm 13 years old and I went ice skating today with my cousin. I fell and landed just above the soft part of my bum. I instantly felt pain and it hasn't gone away yet. It hurts to stand up and sit down. This information has helped me a lot.
I broke my tail bone about 3 days ago. This pain is awful, trying to be around the kids all day and even the dogs. Thank you for posting this and even to all the comments everyone has made on this. Made me feel a lot better. Seems to me that I have dropped everything and anything possible since this happened and it's very frustrating. And not to mention the lack of sleep!!!! Also, it isn't expected to heal for 6 to 8 weeks!!
