The LCD or the plasma television being the flat screen television there is a no way you can keep them on the normal TV stands and enjoy the view. You will need them at thought to get the view.

These are can extend like a human arm up to 15 inches and then can retract back to only about 3 inches from the wall.

Flat screen heavy duty wall mounts
Well nowadays the age of the old CRT Tube TV's is gone. Any new TV in the market which is there is either LCD or LED and both are considered as flat screen TV's. Once you have bought the TV then the options that you have are two which are
1) Use a TV Stand
2) Install the TV on the wall
The first one is an easier option to use however the fact is that it is not always a good option. if your flat screen TV is less that 40" then this can be a good option but for anything larger than 40 inches it is better to go for the second option which is to mount the TV on the wall.
You should not really worry about the weight as the mounts which are available in the market are definitely such that they can support a weight upto 200 lb. That translates easily upto a screen size of 64" or 65". In fact there are manufacturers that have heavy duty mounts which can bear a size 100" TV which means a maximum weight of 400lb.
Within the wall mounts you can go for either the low profile fixed mounts or the tilt mounts.
Tilt or no tilt for wall mount
This is definitely the biggest question that everyone has once you have bought the TV. I can tell you at the outset that after I purchased my 64" inch I definitely went for the tilt. It has some great benefits however again a lot depends on where you want the TV to be wall mounted.
So here are your three options and you can decide after reading these.
Low Profile - These wall mounts for TV are the cheapest option out there in the market. These mounts have no tilt as well as no left/right motion. Basically these are fixed and also these are easy to install. It is just like putting a picture frame of the wall. The downside is the difficulty in putting in cables on the side of the TV and for that you may to have remove the TV from the mount.
Tilting Wall mount - In this case the wall mount does not have any left right motion however it does have an up down motion and the tilt can be between 5 to 15 degrees. The TV is hinged on the central axis. The installation is not very complicated and for sure it is easy to put in the cables or remove them. A lot of questions can come up in your mind as to how far can you tilt the wall mount TV . Now, most of the tilting wall mounts have a capability of tilt of upto 15 degrees or in some cases upto 18 degrees but nothing beyond that.
Full Motion TV Mounts - As the name suggest these have the tilting capability as well as the horizontal or left/right moving capability. These have articulating extendable arms which can even swivel the TV. These are the most flexible and of course the most expensive ones in the market. These installation is not easy and it will take extra help to do this and you will not be able to do the installation on your own.
The basic question is definitely worth asking as to Do I need a Tilted wall mount for LCD or not. The answer lies in the cost and the room design.
