what are pellet stoves

Pellet and corn burning stoves as an alternative to conventional heating have been on the rise as they are relatively less expensive than heating oil or the natural gas that we use in our homes.

The reason is simple because the pellet stoves use the wood shavings that are there and these wood shaving are very inexpensive. Pellet stoves in general have low particle emissions. These pellets are made from the wooden shavings which are the byproduct of any woodworking that was done on the wood for commercial use.

As far the energy efficiency is concerned the pellet stoves are more energy efficient than the wood burning stoves. However if you are considering saving a lot of money then use the wood burning stoves as that will mean that you can easily have the wood from your own backyard.

That said you just cannot have the wooden pellets made all by yourself.

Pellets are made by compressing wood shavings under high pressure.

The pellet stoves will need a hearth so that they can be placed easily.

Else you will need to have the floor protectors installed. Also a lot of manufacturers have guidelines that you should have a minimum amount of space between the floor protector and the base of the stove.

You will need to provide adequate ventilation as that will help remove the fly ash as well as other vapors. The best part is that it does not produce much smoke and hence there is not need for a special chimney or a vent.

Not all is rosy and there are some disadvantages too as far as the pellet burning stoves are concerned. If you have a power outage then these will not work. Some people go for the conventional wood stoves.

There are a lot of pellet stoves available in the market with a battery back up option.

There are a lot of stoves available in the market which are only corn stoves or multi-fuel stoves and can burn kernel corn or the wood pellets.
